Twilight Notes on Chapter 5

Disclaimer: notes transcribed as is, no editing has been made so as to preserve my original feelings as I read the chapter.

Bella makes me sigh. This girl needs a life and a personality transplant. The one she has is pitiful. On both counts. She arrives at a new home & school, makes friends almost immediately and has a dad who appreciates her, clearly loves her and gives her space to live her life. Along with the trust that goes along with that space. Yet she practically ignores these people and the wonderful circumstances that have just been given to her, silver platter included. Instead she focuses all of her attention on one boy, to the point of losing her appetite and wanting to sulk when he’s missing from school !!
I want to scream.
If the book belonged to me, I’d throw it out the window (or give it away).

But, hey-ho, to continue:-

My mistake, her friend Jessica may not be Bella’s friend for the right reasons. Or that her jealousy over Edward’s attraction to Bella is clouding her emotions. Teenagers.

Edward reveals that he can read other people easily and yet cannot do the same for Bella. (Although from what I’ve read so far, Bella may not have all that much in her head to read. Please excuse my bitching).
He is also very well informed about the school curriculum. Handy for ditching classes that involve blood testing. He seemed to think Bella should ditch too and considering Bella’s near fainting spell, makes me wonder what Edward knows about her. If he can’t read her, he must have gotten information from somewhere / one. Stalker much? Getting back to topic – I do find it strange that someone who is so queasy about blood can fall so readily for a vampire, even if Bella is unaware of Edward’s true nature. For the moment. I can foresee this causing problems in the future, possibly even conflict?

So, Isabella is going to this coming beach party. Her desire for Edward to tag along is obvious but since it was Mike who asked her, along with her new circle of friends, perhaps extending the invite to Edward is unwise. The girls may be in awe of her but the boys would be clearly jealous. This and the associated hostility always ruins a party / gathering.

Afterthoughts.
Concentrating on this book has been painful. If I didn’t feel obligated to my own promise (my 5 chapter rule), I wouldn’t have gotten this far, let alone try to write about it all.
Having reached the end of chapter 5, I have decided I won’t be continuing with Twilight. I cannot read a book that does not compel me. This book does the opposite, and I find the characters shallow and outright irritating.
Perhaps if I were a younger person, Twilight would have ensnared me enough to continue reading, enough to also seek out the other books in this saga.
For now, I’m going to return this book and consider the matter closed.

Now to find a different book to concentrate on. Choices, choices…

Twilight; Notes on Chapter 4

Bella is definitely becoming obsessed with Edward. Severely. Although, from her point of view I can understand why. Unfortunately, personally I don’t.

Edward is being very mysterious and is not helping matters by ignoring Bella completely.
Meanwhile, Bella’s fan club has grown by one more. Poor Tyler is still trying to apologise, with little success. Mike is taking advantage of Edward’s apparent disinterest as well. Bella is so used to being ignored by, it seems, everyone that she simply can’t adjust to her new popularity in Forkes. Especially by the male student population. Including Eric as it seems he would like to take her to the dance and is in direct competition with Tyler and Mike. Glad to see Bella choosing Seattle over all three of them. I’m sure Charlie would be a little concerned regarding his daughter’s suitors. They do seem to be chasing her somewhat, much to Edward’s amusement.

Hell-fire! Edward is either very “emo” or needs hormone therapy. If he continues this friends/not-friends dance, Isabella is going to get dizzy and very frustrated. It’s a wonder she hasn’t blown up but then she is obsessed with the boy and that must give him some leeway in her eyes. That and she’s just too afraid of confrontations still.
Bella’s girlfriends are reacting lukewarm to her popularity with the boys. Obviously. Girls hate competition even more so than boys when it comes to the dating game. Seattle, therefore, is a good out to the whole sorry debacle and her advice to her girlfriends gives her better standing in her new circle.

Afterthoughts
I’m losing interest. Took me long enough to pick up and read chapter 3 and I’m struggling to get to chapter 5. I will, however, stick to my ch5 rule and keep going.

May the stars have pity on me.

Cleaning and learning.

Did some minor clean ups of older posts, the categories and added the audio player to each Librivox posting. I love learning curves and cool widgets that just work. Originally I had intended to do a separate post when my LibriVox recording was marked as completed, but that may become messy. So I’ve finally decided to just update and alter the original posting. That way, I won’t have multiple postings all over this blog, making it difficult to search for something I want to check on.

I was reading about the content theft idea on the wordpress support forums but then decided I wouldn’t need them. Who’d want to steal my meandering drivel? Answer; no-one :) and even if someone did, I can’t think what they would use it for. This blog is intended as a progress diary, somewhere I can just write my thoughts about the books I’m reading.

Dear diary,
Only I would care about the contents herein, my opinion is my own affair.

Besides, as I’ve said from the start, I’m not writing here for the amount of hits my site can get. I’ve got one comment so far, a pleasant surprise, but I’m not going to answer every comment that gets posted. I may even turn off the comments, I’ve got to go through the pro’s and con’s of that one.

One item I can’t make up my mind about is the RSS options. I’m fairly sure they aren’t necessary in my case but that opinion is an open argument. One I may never resolve, and so never act upon.

ttfn,

Twilight, Chapter 3. Notes

Twilight; Notes on Chapter 3

Disclaimer: notes transcribed as is, no editing has been made so as to preserve my original feelings as I read the chapter.

Usually by the third chapter, I’m anxious to read what happens next. Not with Twilight. Perhaps this particular brand of young adult fiction is not for me. Maybe that’s why it’s taken me so long to pick up the book again.

Anyhoo, Edward does something supernatural-ish by coming to Bella’s rescue. Like the vampiric knight-in-shining-armour he is supposed to portray. To be honest it’s a little too much. Bella, obviously, wants to know how, why, yadda, yadda…and only shows some minor concern for not only her possible injuries but that of Tyler’s as well. Not very sympathetic to poor Tyler, he must have been badly shaken with nearly running over Bella. He’s trying very hard to apologise but she’s just ignoring him. Bella could have tried harder with her reassurances. Callous of her. She’s only interested in Edward and his oddly coloured, yet compelling eyes. She’s quietly become obsessed with him. Edward’s strange actions, mysterious as they may be, are on the whole, not very compelling to me.

Afterthoughts
I’m thinking of enforcing my five chapter rule on this book. If I’m not enjoying reading Twilight by the end of chapter 5, it’s time to change books.
